Deborah Jean Solberg is an award-winning producer and director of 100 children’s theatre productions, including 6 festival winning productions for a total of 18 awards and honorable mentions. An experienced teacher, administrator and fundraiser, Deborah has authored five children’s books: The Happy Mirror, The Golden Rule, Little Star, Rain Dancer, and My Favourite, written several screenplays, and 10 Women’s Lit Quick Read short stories, including the Mother/Daughter Self-Help Series, Historical Romance Series, and Contemporary Romance Series.
Deborah holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science and Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge and is mid program on a liberal arts master’s degree from Simon Fraser University. She has also completed a program of studies in screenwriting from ScreenwritingU.
Deborah is the founding Artistic Director for Theatrix Youtheatre Society and President of SunCity Productions. She was Chair of the Board of Tri-City Children’s Festival, Executive Director of ARC Arts Council, Co-ordinator of Coquitlam First Nite, Co-ordinator of the Port Coquitlam Area Women’s Centre, and facilitator for the first Youth Services Canada Project in the Tri-Cities.
A former stage actress, Deborah has starred in roles such as Maggie (A Shadow Box), Lady Bracknel (The Importance of Being Earnest), Viola (Twelfth Night), Margaret (Waiting for the Parade), Yvette (Mother Courage), Theresa (Theresa’s Creed), Diana (A Chorus Line), Annie Sullivan (Miracle Worker), Ouiser (Steel Magnolias,); Melissa (Love Letters), and Marmee (Little Women). Acting awards include: Eliza and the Lexicon (Alberta Regional Drama Winner), Canadian Gothic (Alberta Provincial Award Winner), Hand That Cradles the Rock (BC Regional Award Best Actress), Annie Sullivan in Miracle Worker (BC Regional Award Best Actress), Last Five Years (BC Regional Award for Best Director, Best Play).
